VEGGIEFY FOR LUNCH: Health Benefits of Talbos ng Kamote

While the theme song in Transformers say “Transformers More Than Meets the Eye”  I would say that  talbos ng kamote is unknown Transformers member (laughter side).  If transformers are robots in disguise, well this green leafy tops  or talbos ng kamote is a leaf in disguise as well. Why? Continue reading to find out.

Talbos ng kamote or a sweet potato tops is one of those vegetables that can be easily grown in the backyard. In fact, it does not require fertilizers to grow and I have been told that it is good alternative to rice. Hmm….sounds good but what talbos ng kamote makes so interesting is the health benefits it gives.

These green leafy tops have the highest content of total polyphenolic, among other commercial vegetables studied.  Wondering what is Polyphenolic? If you are looking for a vegetable with an excellent source of anti-oxidative stress compounds, then talbos ng kamote has it.

The polyphenolic protects the human body from oxidative stress associated with many diseases: Diabetes (Type 2), Cancer (colon & Stomach) Cardio vascular diseases, problems on bowel movement, lower blood sugar and cholesterol, kidney stone, boils, and acne.

Talbos ng camote is a good source of protein, minerals, dietary fiber and nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorous, sulfur, iron, and zinc.  It is also an important source of vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and ascorbic acid. Indeed, talbos ng kamote is pack up with many health benefits that help us to stay healthy all the time.

For this let me share also with you my Ensalada de Talbos ng Kamote. Please click the link for the recipe http://kusina-ko.blogspot.com/2014/11/veggiefy-for-lunch-ensalada-de-las.html

SENTI: ATIN CU PUNG SINGSING

"Atin Cu Pung Singsing" was the song my father and I used to jam when he was still alive. Those were the nights when my father would lullaby my younger sister. He carried my sister in his arms and me stepping on his feet swinging while singing the song.
The song “Atin Cu Pung Singsing” ( I have a Ring) is one of the most popular folk song in the Province of Pampangga.

Atin ku pung singsing
Metung yang timpukan
Amana ke iti
King indung ibatan.

Sangkan keng sininup
King metung a kaban
Mewala ya iti,
E ku kamalayan.

Ing sukal ning lub ku
Susukdul king banwa
Pikurus kung gamat
Babo ning lamesa.

Ninu mang manakit
King singsing kung mana
Kalulung pusu ku
Manginu ya keya.

Ing sukal ning lub ku
Susukdul king banwa
Pikurus kung gamat
Babo ning lamesa.
Ninu mang manakit
King singsing kung mana
Kalulung pusu ku
Manginu ya keya.
Atin ku pung singsing
Metung yang timpukan
Amana ke iti
King indung ibatan.

Sangkan keng sininup
King metung a kaban
Mewala ya iti,
E ku kamalayan.

Ing sukal ning lub ku
Susukdul king banwa
Pikurus kung gamat
Babo ning lamesa.

Ninu mang manakit

Kalulung pusu ku
Manginu ya keya.

Kalulung pusu ku
Manginu ya keya.

Atin Cu Pung Singsing (English Translation)
I have a ring
With a beautiful stone
It was given to me
by my dear mother.

I kept it close to my breast.
To keep it safe.
But it was lost
As to where, I really have no idea.

The ring got lost.
I never found it.
I cried to high heavens for my sorrow,
Whoever gentleman can retrieve it for me
I offer my humble heart
For him to take.
