Merry May: Cinco de Mayo

Margaritas, tacos, alcohol, tequila, Mexicans, and some kind of interdependence are celebrated on CInco de Mayo. It is the fifth of May, a holiday which roots in Mexico that has become a quite celebration here in the US.

Before this day ends, let's browse the worldwide web and check out the history of the day.

According to the History.com :
“Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor  holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo  traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns  across Mexico and the United States.”

While the Urban Dictionary version states that:

1. It is a well-known fact that Mexicans loves mayonnaise. But In the late 18th century a large steam tanker of this condiment was crossing the gulf of mexico from Florida when a large storm occurred, sinking the tanker. The horrified mexicans witnessed this and named the day of the sinking, May 5, a national holiday of drowning their worries with corona.

Gosh, must be mexican blood running through my veins. Anyway, gotta head out now for my margarita. ;)

Music Monday: Buko by Jireh Lim Female Version

Howdy Folks;) Time flies so fast and first quarter of the year is almost done. Ironically, how time flies seems to be a slow one for me in posting articles in my blog isn't a shame? But anyway, before this first quarter ends let me share with you a cover from one of my favorite singers (actually I only have to most like singers, EM and PK) entitled Buko, which is a short term for Buhay Ko or My Life in English.
Ladies and Gentlemen, have a happy Monday and enjoy listening to my daughter's song cover that already gained 40,578 viewers for the last four months.

Spirit of Christmas

"The Spirit of Christmas
is in its beautiful traditions
and thoughtful customs"

Five days to go and its Christmas time. Whew, time flies so fast and I do miss a lot of things I used to do.

First is the "Simbang Gabi" or Misa de Gallo (nine days of dawn masses). The Misa de Gallo starts as early as 4am. It commences on 16th of December and ends on a Midnight Mass on the 24th of December. I always tried my best to complete these nine (9) masses because my mom would always tells us that if we complete the nine masses, our wishes will come true. I don’t really remember the wishes I had but as far as I am now, I am thankful and blessed for some of them came true.
Second is right after the mass is the traditional delicacies await the churchgoers. Food stalls were right outside the church and two of my favorites are bibingka and puto bungbong.
Third is the caroling. This is the singing of Christmas Carols from one house to another, which we were using our homemade musical instruments like tambourine made of bottle caps, drums made our of cans.
Merry Christmas to all.
